HIMM third mission in Ihiagwa

April 2004

In April 2004, Horizon International Medical Missions (HIMM) went on its 3rd Medical Mission to Ihiagwa, Imo State, Nigeria. An eight person team of medical professionals from the United States stormed the Owerri-West Local Government Area to provide free medical services to the people of Ihiagwa, Obinze and Umuoye. This team included Dr. Shawn Franklin, a professor of medicine in United States, who made sacrifices to come to the town of Ihiagwa where her former student in Family Medicine, Dr. Kennedy Okere, comes from. The team also included HIMM’s Evangelical ministers who worked with the local churches and Obinze Baptist Theological College in reaching souls. “For healing is of the body and soul”, says Dr. Kennedy Okere.

NGO to build hostels at FUTO

Scarce hostel accommodation, which has become acute at the Federal University of Technology (FUTO), Owerri, would soon be in abundant supply as a United States-based non-governmental organisation (NGO), the Owerri Peoples Congress in Houston, Texas, has promised to erect blocks of hostels for the students.

 This was made known by the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor Jude Njoku, who described the problems facing Nigerian universities as enormous and can be resolved only through the intervention of public-spirited individuals.
