History of Education

Currently, Ihiagwa boast primary and secondary schools and a Federal University of Technology also located in Ihiagwa, Owerri, Imo-State, Nigeria.

Education is an important aspect of life for  Ihiagwa people and literacy rate is almost 80%, this rate is considered one of the highest in the region. Ihiagwa Secondary School is the premier secondary school in Ihiagwa.

Among the primary schools are  Baptist, CMS and Roman catholic primary schools although nowadays owned by the local government. There are future plans for educational development in Ihiagwa more info comming soon.

The Ihiagwa autonomous community

The town Ihiagwa Autonomous community is organized into eight villages namely; Iriamogu village, Ibuzo village, Nnkaramochie village, Umuezeawula village, Aku/Umuokwo village, Mboke village, Umuelem village and Umuchima village. Ihiagwa is also home to the Federal University of Technology Ihiagwa, Owerri.
